Overview

Hacking is building things that you always wanted to have but no one has built it yet. It's to come up with an amazing idea and work tirelessly on it. It is to fail, fail again, and fail better. Try out new things and learn while doing that. It's to work together, collaborate, and build things that are innovative. It is to be a better programmer.

With that spirit, Souvik.Maiti@Chandigarh University is conducting a hackathon - Tomato Grand Challenge and invites all developers and hackathon enthusiasts to participate in an interesting and engaging hackathon.

An exciting opportunity for students to step into real-life issues inside the different sectors and opportunity to resolve them with different domains. The main goal of this event is to encourage students to take small steps toward understanding the various problems. It will help them to connect with inside insights along with technical skills with CSE and invent more projects that will take them on tour. Footsteps towards education would help students to take care of themselves while living alone as well and technical skills will be integrated between the Ministry of Consumers and Education and food joins hand to bring up the tomato grand challenge. This hackathon is tied up with the Ministry of Education and the shortlisted teams will redirect to the Tomato Grand Challenge final round. Students who are encouraged and ready to solve real-time problems are highly recommended to take this challenge up.

Themes

Verticals 1:

Designing and Disseminating information systems pertaining to crop planning, production practices, market intelligence, farmer/ trader/ customer interface, etc. (Remote Sensing, Artificial Intelligence, App based platforms, etc.)

These technologies provide valuable data and tools to farmers, enabling them to make informed decisions, improve productivity, reduce costs, and connect directly with the market. Target - Challenges in market intelligence and information dissemination

Verticals 2

Innovative post-harvest treatments, packaging and technologies for long term storage to minimize post- harvest losses during transportation and storage to avoid panic selling due to perishability. Target - Challenges and scope of improvement

Verticals 3

Developing value added products and processes for product diversification including utilization of processing waste, and innovative technologies for value addition to avoid panic selling due to perishability. This can involve using leftover materials from processing to create new products and using innovative technologies to prevent products from spoiling quickly. This helps farmers avoid selling products in a rush at low prices when they are close to expiring. It also allows farmers to offer a wider range of products, increasing their income and reducing waste in the process.
